GAP Guides

Similar to our other 3D printed surgical guides our GAP guides are CT/MRI derived.

Through our close collaboration with the Queensland Tissue Bank allograft bone sections are scanned via medical imagery whilst sterile and the 3D models of the bone sections are sent to Lyka Smith.

Our engineers are then able to carefully pre-plan osteotomies, hole locations and any contouring requirements to ensure minimal allograft wastage and increased surgical accuracy.

Our GAP guides are produced in biomedical grade plastics or titanium dependant on the surgical requirement.

GAP Biomodels

Lyka Smith produces a 3D replica of the allograft as a whole and the resected section. This enables the surgical team to ensure accuracy, confirm placement and positioning of the GAP Guide and it also acts as a reference for surgical planning in the event of any changes to the case.

  • GAP Biomodels are 3D printed using biomedical polymers and can be supplied in white opaque or clear materials
  • The utilisation of GAP biomodels also enables the surgical team to apply corrective planning to allograft positional changes

Our partnership with the Queensland Tissue Bank

In 2023 Lyka Smith and the Queensland Tissue Bank formed a mutually beneficial partnership with the aims of:

1 – Ensuring the sustainable and accurate utilisation of allograft bone resources from Queensland donors

2 – Enhancing surgical precision and outcomes by drastically reducing the potential for allograft wastage

3 – Maintaining the viability of allograft products locally sourced compared to overseas supplied
